Classic Summer Outfits

If you’re tired of following trends and spending a bunch of money to revamp your wardrobe, consider finding some classic staples that stand the test of time. Look for the timeless pieces that easily mix and match to create new outfits and are easily updated with perhaps only a new bag or earrings in a trendier color.
When choosing classic summer colors, I personally think of navy blue, light blue, Kelly or emerald green, red, yellow, white and black. That said, some people prefer lighter tints or tones for summer, or those colors don’t suit them. It’s more important to complement your skin, hair and eyes than it is to follow someone else’s idea of the must-have wardrobe colors, so though I’ve attached some classic summer outfit ideas, feel free to use these as templates and select the version/color of the item that best suits you. (I usually - but not always - try to limit the number of main colors in each outfit to three or less, unless the clothing item itself is multicolored.)
Furthermore, choose the neckline or sleeve length that best flatters you. I have Scandinavian/Irish farm girl arms, and though I’m glad I’m strong, certain sleeve lengths (such as the classic, straight-across short-sleeved t-shirt length) look too chunky on me, so I typically gravitate toward an angled shorter sleeve or a ¾ sleeve. If I choose a long-sleeved top, I make sure it’s lightweight and that I’m able to roll up the sleeves when needed.
Necklines are another feature to adjust when needed. For example, a classic crewneck again accentuates my strong shoulders and arms too much, so I’ve found that a scoop-neck, v-neck, boatneck or ballet neck are more feminine and flattering for me. But it may be different for you, so it’s okay to take my outfit suggestions and, where needed, substitute pieces that are similar in idea but also best highlight you.
Finally, before you shop, take inventory of your current summer wardrobe. (I just did this yesterday!) With my outfit inspirations in mind, see if you can create similar looks with things you already have. Maybe you will find that adding a single piece will pull items you already have into a pulled-together outfit!
